Cigarettes and Cancer

How Can Cigarettes Cause Cancer?

Smoking is the biggest cause of cancer. Thanks to years of research, the current link between smoking and cancer is now very clear. Smoking accounts for more than 1 in 4 UK cancer deaths, and nearly a fifth of all cases of cancer.

Tobacco is responsible for more than 100 million deaths worldwide in the 20th century. The World Health Organization estimates that, if this trend continues, tobacco can cause billions of deaths in the 21st century. And most of these deaths can be prevented, by quitting smoking.

Smoking causes more than 4 in 5 cases of lung cancer. Lung cancer has one of the lowest survival rates of all cancers and is the most common cause of cancer death in the UK.

Smoking also increases the risk of at least 13 other cancers including cancer of the larynx (vocal cords), esophagus (esophagus), mouth and pharynx (throat), bladder, pancreas, kidneys, liver, stomach, intestines, uterus, ovary, also some of the nose and sinuses the type of leukemia. There is also some evidence that smoking can increase the risk of breast cancer.

Why Is Smoking So Addictive?

Smoking is highly addictive because tobacco contains the toxic substance called nicotine. Smoking is intentionally designed to deliver nicotine effects quickly. It takes less than 20 seconds to reach your brain from cigarette smoke that is inhaled.

Nicotine causes addiction in much the same way as heroin or cocaine. It's just as addictive as drinking “hard” drinks. This is the reason why most smokers say they want to quit but find it so difficult. If you start smoking, you may find it very difficult to stop later.

Which Parts Of The Body Are Not Affected By Smoking?

Chemicals in cigarette smoke enter the bloodstream and then can affect the whole body. This is why smoking causes so many diseases, including at least 14 types of cancer, heart disease, and various lung diseases.

How Can Smoking Cause Cancer?

The main way that smoking causes cancer is to damage our DNA, including the key gene that protects against cancer. Many of the chemicals found in cigarettes has been shown to cause DNA damage, including benzene, polonium-210, benzo (a) pyrene and nitrosamines.

It's bad news, but it's aggravated by other chemicals in cigarettes. For example, chromium makes toxins like benzo (a) pyrene attached strongly to DNA, increasing the likelihood of serious damage. And chemicals such as arsenic and nickel interfere with pathways to repair damaged DNA. This makes it even more likely that damaged cells will eventually turn into cancer.

How Long Does It Take For Smokers Cause Cancer?

It usually takes years, or decades, to DNA damage from smoking causes cancer. Our bodies are designed to handle a little damage but it's hard for the body to cope with the number of harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke.

Any smoking can damage DNA in many lung cells, but it is built in the same cell damage that can lead to cancer. However, research has shown that for every 15 cigarettes smoked there are changes in the DNA that can cause cells to become cancerous. This is why it is better to quit smoking earlier than regret on a later day.

How Can Smoking Weaken The Body's Defenses?

Smokers are also more able to handle toxic chemicals compared to the lungs and blood healthy. We all have special cleaner protein called ' detoxification enzymes ' which serves to clean up hazardous chemicals. But the chemicals in smoke, such as cadmium, can interfere with the function of these proteins.

Other chemicals such as formaldehyde and Acrolein can kill Cilia, the tiny hairs which Act clears toxins out of your Airways. Cigarette smoke also has an impact on the immune system – increase the cells that can encourage the growth of a tumor in the lung and be suppressing substance that can kill cancer cells.

Horrible Disease Caused By Smoking

Socialization about the dangers of smoking and dozens of diseases caused by smoking continue to circulate in various media, but still, the number of smokers continues to rise and increasingly alarming. More than 4 million people died every year attributed to smoking and smoking habit, based on data from the WHO.

Cigarettes contain thousands of hazardous chemicals that, it goes into the lungs, could stimulate abnormal cell growth (cancer) in the lungs.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD is a collection of chronic lung diseases that block airflow when breathing and cause breathing difficulties. Because of its chronic nature, this lung damage can no longer be cured. Bronchitis and chronic asthma are a common condition in people with COPD and are particularly susceptible to lung infections.

COPD is closely related to cigarette smoke, either by active smokers or passive smokers exposed to cigarette smoke continuously. Based on data from, COPD is the third leading cause of death in the USA, and 80% is caused by cigarettes.

Heart Disease

smoking is very bad for the heart health. Smoking can cause blockage and narrowing of the arteries, which means the less supply of blood and oxygen flow to the heart.
Heart disease is the highest cause of death in the world. Cigarettes increase the risk of heart disease up to 4 times! Keep away from smoking and tobacco smoke is essential for the health of the heart and other vital organs.

Stroke is similar to the increased risk of heart disease, smoking also inhibits blood flow and oxygen to the brain. As a result, the brain cells will die slowly as a consequence of decreased oxygen supply.
A stroke occurs when a clot clogging the flow of blood to the brain, or when the blood vessels around the brain burst.

Asthma is a chronic lung disease one that makes we difficult to breathe. Smoking can damage the respiratory tract and can trigger severe asthma attacks. Although asthma is often caused by genetic factors, smoking will only aggravate asthma conditions.
Interfere with pregnancy and fetal health cigarette smoking could cause serious disruption to the pregnancy, as well as disrupt fetal health both before and after birth.

Furthermore, smoking increases the risk of diabetes complications in people with diabetes, such as heart disease and kidney, blood flow to a part of a bad foot, blindness, and nerve damage.

Disorders Of The Mouth, Teeth, And Gums

The ingredients of harmful chemicals in cigarettes are likely to have serious adverse effects on teeth, gums, jawbone, oral tissue, and all parts of the mouth.

Broadly speaking it is caused by sticking to its harmful substances in teeth, gums, and oral cavity. Also due to inhibited its flow of nutrients to the mouth part due to smoking.

Oral health disorders most commonly caused by smoking are :

  • Stains and discoloration of the teeth.
  • Bad breath.
  • Tooth decay accumulates plaque, decay, and porous teeth.
  • Periodontal disease or gum disease, such as swollen gums, and gum infections
  • .Oral cancer

Oral Cancer

Womb carcinogens (cancer-causing substances) that are abundant on smoking increases the risk of abnormal cell growth on the part of the mouth and throat. It makes smokers 4 times more likely to be exposed to oral cancer than those who do not smoke. The fact is, 90% of oral cancer patients are smokers.

Smoking can irritate, impede the flow of blood and nutrients, as well as give an adverse effect on the lips, the oral cavity inside, teeth and gums, to the throat.

More Than 9 Types Of Other Cancer

Cigarettes give bad effects on almost all organs of the body, from the outside to the deepest. Different types of cancer are formed by smoking, or aggravated by smoking habits. In addition to cancers of the lungs and mouth.

Smoking is also linked to dozens of other types of cancer, such as :

  1. Blood Cancer
  2. Bladder Cancer
  3. Cervical Cancer
  4. Breast Cancer

  8.  Liver Cancer
  9.  And So Forth.

Diseases And Other Health Disorders Resulting From Smoking

The bad effects of cigarettes do not stop only on the above-mentioned diseases. Nicotine, tar, lead, and thousands of harmful chemicals in cigarettes can cause serious negative complications throughout the body.

Some types of health problems associated with smoking include :
